Power restored to 50% of customers after island-wide outage across Kauai,HONOLULU

An island-wide power outage on Kauai occurred on Wednesday evening, affecting the entire island. The Kauai Island Utility Cooperative (KIUC) reported significant power outages and stated that the cause of the outage is currently unknown.

 As of 9:45 p.m., KIUC announced on their Facebook page that approximately 50% of their members had their power restored. They identified a fault at the Kapaia switchyard, which caused all generators to trip offline.

Restoration efforts are ongoing as generators are being brought back online. KIUC's crews are working diligently to achieve full restoration and have thanked the community for their patience.
